ADVANCES

Due to the recent discoveries made by scientists and universities, new biosensor applications in different fields are being developed. Biosensors have been able to enter various markets, such as the enviromental, medical, industrial, and biodefense sectors. The biosensor market is ever increasing as each new biosensor gets created, so its market is often categorized as one of growth. In fact, it is estimated that the global revenue made by biosensors will be $16 million in 2016! In addition, the annual revenue growth rate is projected to be greater than 14% in 2016. Take a look below at the bar showing the total biosensors market from 2009 to 2016.

While biosensor's main markets are in the medical field, especially diagnostics and point-of-care, the advances have allowed biosensors to penetrate new markets that can really benefit from the accuracy and rapid detection that biosensors can offer. Below is a pie chart that shows the percent revenues of the main markets and how they increased from 2009 to 2016.

As mentioned above, biosensors have huge potential to be used in most fields. Just in 2009, there were over 47 biosensor applications, and that number has in no doubt increased annually. The intricate picture below depicts all the functions biosensors had in 2009 and still have in 2016. To further learn about the various markets biosensors have probed into, click on the photos below the chart! Each photo will lead you to a webpage designed to address how biosensors have been utilized in that particular field.
