THE FUTURE OF BIOSENSORS

Because biosensors are an emerging technology in the synthetic biology field, they have an enormous amount of potential to be unleashed in the future. Researchers are focused on miniaturizing biosensors by making the components smaller and smaller. This will increase the production and usage of wearable biosensors in the future. Currently, a few companies have developed wearable biosensors for health performance monitoring for the average user. Although their downsizing might lead to more implants, biosensors are also getting better at detecting molecules, so noninvasive methods can also be employed to reduce uncomfortability.

Some products that are in progress include fast-detection biosensors (detection in less than a few seconds) and cell-on-chip biosensors to study cell interactions. Nanobiosensors have still yet to reach its peak in the biosensor market - but it has tremendous advantages.
